Part of enhancing your home studio is finding a floor sitting desk that you *actually* feel comfy working in and that fits your interior design style. ✨
Now, your desk may or may not be where you actually do your creative work. For me, I don’t really write music at my desk, but I do write blog posts, make social media posts, film short-form videos, and even film some YouTube videos there!
While it’s slightly different creative work from my main creative pursuit – songwriting – there’s still a lot of comfiness (not to mention posture improvement) I need from working at it. After all, it’s being able to be efficient and productive in my home studio workspace that makes me able to afford pursuing my songwriting. 😉 It’s there to soothe your soul.
Desk-to-sit-on-floor options have become increasingly popular for comfort-seekers who believe in maintaining good posture while working – and I couldn’t agree more!
While I personally use an adjustable desk with a meditation chair, I’m a strong advocate for the Japanese chabudai table approach too for a more *yoga* desk set-up, if you will!
The philosophy behind low seating in the Japanese culture:
❥ It makes a room feel larger
❥ It’s more flexible and easy to move around/shift if you have more guests
❥ You’re physically getting closer to nature and more grounded
Creating a zen workspace is incredibly important for nurturing your creativity. Especially if you’re using a computer at your desk, it’s easier to start getting floaty up in your seventh chakra, letting the technology make your brain filled with lots of ideas and thoughts.
So, if you’re looking into getting a floor sitting desk, it’s important to find the right one for you and your home studio space.
This sit-on-floor desk set-up (with the cutest chair!) is perfect for those seeking a Japanese-inspired workspace or relaxation area. There are a lot of different color options for the chair, from pink to purple to green and a lot of colors in between!
PROS
CONS
This adorable floor sit desk is ideal for those who simply need that flexibility and movement while working (former gymnast here 🤸, I get it). Use it on the bed, the couch, a chair, or the floor so you can work, stream, write, or eat while you’re working with ease. This desk also has multiple height settles and a spacious work surface.
PROS
CONS
This multifunctional stand can be a cross-legged desk for work, a bed tray, and decorative piece, offering comfort and convenience for various activities such as working, studying, or drawing. Made from laminated MDF wood, it definitely combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, bringing all the home studio interior design vibes!
PROS
CONS
This compact desk for floor sitting serves as both a living room table and PC workstation, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal. It’s handmade with attention to detail, and great for those who want that perfect low-height workspace solution that’s super portable.
Also, it’s so woodsy and cute, I just can’t get over how cute the design is! This is great for those who appreciate handcrafted, customizable furniture and prefer working in a low-seated position.
PROS
CONS
This solid wood desk for sitting on the floor is a versatile, foldable piece designed for multiple uses in various settings. It combines durability, portability, and ease of use, making it suitable for those who value flexibility in their living spaces.
While advertised as a coffee table, this Japanese-style desk can easily double as your primary workstation. In fact, I love that it’s a multifunctional piece of furniture. It can work really well for small spaces, especially if you don’t have a designated desk area in your home. Grab a floor seat and get comfy!
PROS
CONS
This low-profile desk is a minimalist, foldable piece designed to bring authentic Japanese aesthetics and functionality to any living space. It’s crafted from bamboo, it offers a blend of traditional design and practical features for modern living.
This offers another multifunctional furniture option, as it’s a minimalist furniture design, especially in the Original Wood Color. It can bring a really light and airy Scandi-styled design for those who love furniture that keeps things light (I’m personally not a fan of too much heavy furniture).

Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese practice of arranging your environment to promote positive energy flow, can be particularly effective when applied to a ground-level workstation!
One of the biggest Feng Shui hacks for your home studio is placing it in the “command position” – facing the door but not directly in line with it. This placement is said to promote a sense of security and control over your environment.
When it comes to decor, you’ll want to think about the 5 elements of Feng Shui:
Lighting also plays a role in Feng Shui. Natural light is ideal, so try to position your floor sitting desk near a window if possible. If natural light is limited, use warm, adjustable lighting to create a comfortable atmosphere.
If you’re a plant person, then great, this is definitely promoted in home office Feng Shui! But if not, no worries. I use dried flowers and decor that looks like or resembles plants or flowers. I swear, it makes up for it! 🤪
The concept of “flow zones” involves setting up different areas within your workspace for various stages of the creative process. This approach can be particularly effective when using a floor sitting desk, as it encourages movement and variety in your work routine.
Artists do this in a lot of different ways. Some artists can create in the same place they work. Others need designated areas for each. Think about what you can use in the space and what you can use for dedicated activities.
It might take a little bit of experimenting. Try to see if you have room for 2 zones. You might not, or you might switch tasks by doing something else, like playing music (or playing different music), changing the light, drawing the curtains, or doing certain work during the day vs. at night.
There are a lot of little rituals you can create to separate your work from your creativity (that is, if they’re not conjoined yet!).
Speaking of creating different time zones, implementing time constraints can be an amazing tool for boosting your focus and productivity.
