Not the colors you probably think of when you hear “nature,” right?

But a blue orange color palette has deepest, breadth, and variation across our beautiful plant, where we love getting inspiration for decorating our homes!

Orange is a mix of the warm glow of after-golden-hour sunlight.

Blue is the natural skies, oceans, lakes, and rivers.

So although it’s a little unordinary, a little nontraditional, a little different from the blank white, and neutral canvasses you might see on Pinterest, don’t be afraid of a good blue orange color palette, especially if you’ve found yourself venturing to these colors in your wardrobe, or as a color palette for a business you might have.

I’m showcasing 7 blue orange color palettes that’ll inspire you to embrace this dynamic duo in your own space— whether you’re looking for a relaxing bedroom, an inventive home office or studio, or a curious kitchen.

So stay on-brand to this scheme with some cinnamon tea and your favorite blue sweater and let’s explore how you can bring these two spooky, warm, nature-centric colors into the space of your choosing.

1. Equinox Dreams

This gorgeous and rich color palette is super autumny and deep. This is definitely not for those who are afraid of color– but it could be sooooo pretty, especially with golden leaves out the window during the fall season itself.

2. Ethereal Autumn

Slightly similar to this blue orange color palette above, this beauty could have walls with this light yellow color with darker accents, or even the beautiful light blue color with orange and black accents around the house. How gorgeous would that look with some pops of orange, right?!

3. Galactic Sway

Think about this baby blue combination with the muddier browns and oranges around a room. Call me risky, but I could totally see someone rockin’ a black wall with pops of light blues and oranges through rugs, vases, tables, and lamps.

4. Serenity at Sundown

Didn’t think a blue orange color palette could still carry through a pastel color palette? Think again. This soft color palette with some greys and tans would be beautiful in a baby’s room, for a light, airy kitchen, or for a soft office with a cool blend of warm and cool shades.

5. Beneath the Windy Sky

Ever thought about an orange as dark as the one all the way on the left? I bet not! This ethereal picture inspires me so much– I could so see a dark blue wall color with some soft tan accents and a few pops of orange to set the tone.

6. Elemental Symbiotica

We needed one bright one in here, and this sure is it. Maybe it’s a playroom, a fun outdoor area, or even a little small office closet with no windows that need some visual brightness.

7. The Divine Ceslestina

This has to be my favorite out of all of these palettes. It’s muted and soft, and it’s so darn cozy. I’d go ahead and mount this very picture right on my wall to tie it all together.

We’ve embraced the beautiful vibrancies and warmth of these colors together, but what’s next? Here are some quick and simple ways to sprinkle this magic into your own abode:

  1. Swatch it out: love one of these colors? Find a match at your favorite paint color store (or online), but please, get some swatches first. You know how wonky these screens get, and how daylight can widely affect the way a color shows (right?!). Place them in different parts of your space to see how they vibe in different lighting.
  2. Accessorize with thematic textiles and thrifted art: If you’re not ready for a paint job (or hey, already finished it), throw in some orange or blue pillowcases, a vase or three (only odd numbers when grouping them together), or even some wall art that you’ve found at an estate sale.
  3. Bring nature even more indoors with natural decor: Gather pinecones, twigs, and dried flowers that match your color scheme.

This room is yours, my friend. Paint it with the warmth of autumn, let it reflect the beautiful combination of these two colors, and most importantly, let it be functional and comfortable for what you’re doing in it. Enjoy!
