Last year, I leaped and invested over $5,000 in 5 key areas for my home, business, and health.
But this journey wasn’t just about the things that I spent money on– but the growth and understanding that came with it, and how it applies to how I’m approaching my creative business in 2024.
Take a read below, or watch my full video on YouTube. 👇
Blog/Website: $1,410
Creating a blog from scratch is sooooo much more than just writing blog posts all day– you need to know SEO, content creation, keyword strategy, topical mapping, and the actual website platform and builder you’re using.
More importantly, it taught me the importance of how you need to know how to play the game of the industry you’re in. If you’re not willing to at least play the game a little, you might be struggling a lot in your pursuit. Maybe it’s the game of putting your face out there and promoting your music on social media. Or diving into the full-time world for a bit so you can build up your income to support your endeavors.
By the way, “the game” can be re-written your own way– as long as you have a knowledge of what the game is and how you’re going to spin it smartly.
Litter Robots (2): $1,400
This might seem big. Two robots to just… scoop cat poop? But it symbolizes a bigger business lesson: invest in convenience only after you’ve done the legwork yourself. It doesn’t make sense to outsource your work before you’ve paid your dues and put in the time.
Invest time first, and then, once you’ve worked a good amount, you can invest money.
Hydrogen Water Machine: $1,795
Then came the hydrogen water machine, my first big health investment. Beyond its physical benefits (electrolyte- and antioxidant-rich water), this unit taught me to be the hydrogen water to my clients– indispensable, beneficial, and a source of unique value.
Whether your clients are the venues you perform in or the businesses you create content for, it’s up to you to make yourself such an important part of their business, they could never imagine life without you!
Blogging Course: $1,200
After lots of thought (I mean, like, 5 years of waiting!) I finally invested in my first online course: a $1,200 blogging course. The takeaway? Give yourself time to build a strategy before jumping into one area.
This course was definitely not an impulse buy– it was the result of years of exploration and understanding exactly what my creative career strategy will be. So take some time to angle your strategy before dumping tons of money or time into it. There’s a lot you can learn for free on YouTube to trial out your ideas before diving deeply into them.
Laptop Lease: $900
I spent $900 on leasing my laptop. That’s right, leasing, not buying.
This isn’t a typical move for me– I’m used to ripping the bandaid off and buying things outright. But what I learned was not only that we should be taking business and life one step at a time, but also that there’s no one “right” way to do things. Even though the traditional route might be buying, it doesn’t always have to be your way.
These biggie big buys were an investment in my growth, my health, and my home, and hopefully, brought you some unique lessons about the importance of your strategy, patience, and adaptability in your creative dream pursuits.
There’s no one right path to success, so be willing to explore, invest wisely, and most importantly, be patient with your journey. Let’s learn and grow together xoxo.
