Don’t let the name fool you, because I already know you’re not lazy. 💁‍♀️

I think the running trend of the “Lazy Girl Job” just means to be a little sticker shock. In fact, I kind of rebranded that term myself into my unofficial Cozy Girl Job. But the sentiment is the same:

Your creativity can flourish, you can make money, and you can work towards your own creative career — all while not being exhausted by the current job that makes you money.

Hence, not the Hustle Bro Job, but the Lazy Girl Job (or Cozy Girl Job): a remote job that highlights your natural creativity through the realm of digital marketing. This can be side-hustles for introverts while you build your full-time creative career, or even a full-time job that helps you save money for a few years so you can jump into your dream head-on. (We love to see you saving money, because full-time jobs are not always traps! 💰)

Both are valid, both are possible. As a female singer-songwriter, I started in a Cozy Girl Job and it’s one of the reasons I’ve had time and inspiration to write music. 🧘‍♀️

Let’s dive into some Lazy Girl Jobs examples (or, what I’ll likely call them in my own terms, Cozy Girl Job!) and how possible it is for you to get started in it.

But Before Some Lazy Girl Jobs Examples, What Defines a Lazy Girl Job for Creatives?

A Lazy Girl Job (or Cozy Girl Job) is a type of remote, low-stress career focusing on maximizing output while minimizing unnecessary pressure. It leans into your natural zone of genius that takes the least effort possible while yielding great results so you can continue consistently making money and wow-ing the people you work with.

The important part about this is it’s very 4-Hour Workweek-friendly. Working fewer hours and being super productive and offering value should yield more money. Taking up more time should show that it’s not sustainable. We’re not here to juggle papers from 9-5pm – even if we have a full-time job that technically says we should.

This Cozy Girl Job lets you use your natural talents to make money so you can leverage the money you make to pursue your full-on passion, whether that’s touring your music, having a full-time Etsy shop, owning your own flower arrangement shop, or anything in between.

It’s specifically built for creatives, but built against the grain of the traditional “starving artist” mentality.

Some key features of Lazy Girl Jobs examples:

Remote Job

Remote work opportunities are essential for this. You don’t have someone hovering over you, you’re not wasting time commuting, and you’re not forced to physically be away from your home studio where you can create.

The flexibility of remote work allows you to create a schedule that complements your lifestyle. Need to take a midday yoga class to recharge your creative batteries? No problem. Want to travel while maintaining your career? Remote work makes it possible.

Tip: If you have an in-person job that’s not draining you, that’s amazing! However, in-person jobs tend to take away time from pursuing your creative passions because of physically not being able to work on your craft and spending time commuting… unless you’re super lucky.

Flexible Work Hours

In this remote job usually comes flexible schedule jobs which let you work when you’re most productive (which is different for everyone!). Yes, that’s right – not everyone thrives from 9am-5pm, even though society has told us this way.

For example, I tend to be super productive in the morning, like, when nobody else is up. The moment I wake up, I want to get going (even sometimes in bed under the red light, it’s soooo relaxing).

But STATiC is a night owl who does his best work usually after 9pm (I cannot function after that time lol). That’s the beauty of flexible work hours — you can capitalize on your natural rhythms, not what a job told you.

This also means you can schedule your work around your creative projects, going to a hot yoga class in the afternoon, or just taking a break when you feel like you need some creative recovery time.

*Note: this does mean you need to be stellar at time-management strategies and artist systems. The Pomodoro Timer, body-doubling programs and productivity apps like Asana or Blitzit.

Minimal or No Meetings

Because we need these flexible hours, our Lazy Girl/Cozy Girl Job has to have as minimal meetings as possible. This is why I don’t say that customer support or sales jobs are in this umbrella, since you’re basically pinned down to your desk!

Cozy/Lazy Girl Jobs have to prioritize asynchronous communication methods, like emails, Slack messages, and updates in project management tools. We do not want to “always be a call away.” (Of course, if you have a full-time job, this might be a little less flexible, as they tend to be a little more strict about the time you’re around/available).

When you do need meetings and if you find they run long (like with clients), make sure to have a really clear agenda, and even make up that you “have to jump off right at the hour” for those clients who tend to want to use up more of the time allotted.

Examples of Lazy Girl Jobs for Creatives

So we’ve defined this concept, but how do we actually find these Lazy Girl Jobs examples? As I love to preach, I started out by finding digital marketing jobs on job sites like Upwork and Contra to start getting some experience. Then, when I have a good number of 5-star reviews on small, low-paying projects, I raised my rates and started creating contracts and finding retainer clients.

Here are some Lazy Girl Jobs examples for you as you start creating your Upwork and Contra account!:

Social Media Manager/Content Creator

You’re probably already scrolling, so why not make it something you get paid for?

Social media management or content creation can be some easy online jobs to get started, especially since you probably already know how to use social media! Use YouTube University as your creative coach to learn what you need to know on the most basic level, and get started!

Some creators I love who touch on the subject:

Latasha James

Modern Millie

With social media management, you’ll likely need to know how to:

📆 Develop a content calendar and distinguish a number of posts per week

🤳 Write on-brand social media captions

🤝 Work with an on-site content creator or with the brand to capture videos and images for content

👩‍💻 Have a working knowledge of trends and how to fit them to your client’s brand

SEO Blog Writer

As an SEO blog writer, you’ll need to have that chef’s kiss 🤌 blend of marketing copywriting and know about Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This job has the ability to scale in bigger ways; since SEO is ever-changing, many people don’t want to keep up with the newest “rules–” making you their go-to gal (or guy) as their writer.

Some creators I love who touch on the subject:

💻 Matt Diamante

🙋‍♂️ Adam Enfroy

A big part of finding a part-time high-paying jobs in SEO content strategy is really understanding keyword research, optimization in blog posts, and staying up-to-date with Google’s updates. Both of these creators are really great at not only telling you about these updates, but telling you about SEO in a language that actually makes sense.

Why I’ve loved breaking into this little digital marketing is that it’s ended up being a great passive income ideas to dive in for myself.

I.e, this blog you’re reading right now is a great example! Hehe 🦄

Virtual Assistant/Project Manager

Being a Virtual Assistant or a Project Manager can be great for the Type A girlie who loves color-coordinating calendars, reminding people of dates, and almost feels like the mom of your friend group (or, heck, maybe you are a mom).

These roles involve managing schedules, coordinating projects, and handling various administrative tasks – all of which can typically be done remotely.

The key to this is being able to stay on top of projects — you need to be really detail-oriented and super organized. You might be coordinating photoshoots, managing content calendars, organizing design projects, reminding team members of deadlines, holding CEOs accountable.

I would say this is not for the introvert, unless you gain energy by keeping people organized. This is all about being honest with people. “Reminder that you have X due today,” and “Hey, this is a day overdue. What’s going on?” Might be really big in your vocabulary.

The cool thing about these roles is that they can be so differentiated. Being a Virtual Assistant or a Project Manager is going to look super different across different clients — and that can be really fun and exciting for someone who wants a little bit of excitement in a digital marketing/virtual-type role like this.

Content Manager

As a content manager, you’ll oversee the planning, creation, and distribution of content across various platforms. This can be social media content, blog content, YouTube content, you get the picture.

A content manager is really the content visionary. You need to be able to see the bigger picture of content. Most often, you’ll find people who started out as blog writers or social media managers who then graduate to content manager positions.

Because think about it – you need to be in the field for a little bit before you understand the inner workings of how it’s actually overseen.

Graphic Designer

This is for someone who has years under their belt in graphic design. As much as I love Canva for many reasons, I absolutely cannot call myself a graphic designer because of it. Graphic design has so many more nuances than regular old social media graphics, and when you have that skill, you should absolutely monetize it!

You’ll need to know professional design software like Adobe Creative Suite (sorry, not just Canva!) a strong portfolio, and the ability to translate client needs into visual solutions.

I always talk about the importance of having recurring work, so as a graphic designer, think about the recurring work you could do, like:

  • Blog graphics
  • Social media graphics
  • Campaign strategy in an agency (potentially consistent if you’re in an agency with lots of inbound clientele)

You could also focus particularly on things like UX/UI for a tech start-up – as they’ll often hire full-time, remote employees for this (we love the regular, work-from-home income!).
